The family-owned and operated Italian restaurant La Catena, which opened in March 1989, has closed in Bridgewater.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The long-standing, family-owned and operated Italian restaurant, La Catena, has closed in Bridgewater.

The restaurant was sold in early November and its liquor license was sold to SOLO Bridgewater, LLC, who was represented by Jeremy Weiss of Windels Marx. The transfer of the liquor license was unanimously approved through resolution by the Bridgewater Township Council during its Nov. 9 meeting.

La Catena opened in March 1989 at 966 US Highway 22, across from Buffalo Wild Wings, in Bridgewater offering fine Northern Italian food and cuisine.

However, Smashburger told Patch that they are no longer looking at that location.

"This was a site we were interested in but ended up passing on," a spokesman for Smashburger said.

There is no word on what will replace the family Italian restaurant. A request for comment to Windels Marx from Patch about the future of the property was not returned.
