Man Charged With Stealing Keys from Unlocked Locker at Gym

He then uses keys to get inside car and steal $40, police say.

A Clinton Township man has been charged with stealing car keys from an unlocked locker and then stealing $40 from the center console of the vehicle while it was parked at a Bridgewater health club.

Adam Stockl, 25, was remanded to the Somerset County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail (10 percent option) set by Superior Court Judge Michael O’Neill following his arrest on Saturday.

According to an affidavit filed in the Criminal Division of Superior Court in Somerville, Stockl allegedly stole a set of keys to a 2010 black Ford Escape from an unlocked locker at Gold’s Gym, 462 Route 28, at about 2:35 p.m. Saturday.

Stockl then went to the gym’s parking lot and used the keys to get into the vehicle. The affidavit said he found the victim’s wallet in the vehicle’s center console and removed $40 in cash.

After leaving the keys in the vehicle, Stockl then left the area in a Ford Mustang and was stopped by police, the affidavit said.

Stockl gave police permission for a search and the $40 was recovered, the affidavit said.

Later, after being given his Miranda warning about self-incrimination, Stockl admitted to taking the keys according to the affidavit.

He is facing charges of third-degree burglary to a motor vehicle and theft.

According to lehighvalleylive.com, Stockl was charged in April with three March thefts in Pohatcong, including two thefts in the locker room of the Club Metro gym on Route 22.

Stockl was charged with stealing $200 from one man’s locker and $20 and a key fob worth $200 from another man’s locker, the report said.

In addition he was charged with stealing $750 in cash from a car in Pohatcong, the report said.
