Armed Man Arrested After Shelter-In-Place In Bridgewater: Police

Somerset County SWAT and Bridgewater Police have the armed man in custody. "Scene is secured, no threat to the public," police said.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A man armed with a gun in Bridgewater was arrested following a shelter-in-place in the area of Country Club Road on Monday night, authorities said.

Somerset County SWAT responded to the scene along with Bridgewater Police. The man was taken into custody around 6:40 p.m., according to Francis Roman, spokesman for the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

"There were no shots fired at law enforcement. Scene is secured, no threat to the public," Roman said.

Bridgewater Police sent out an alert to residents around 5 p.m. warning anyone in the area between Route 22 and Garretson Road to take cover.

"If you live within this area, shelter in place preferably a basement," Bridgewater Police said.

The incident remains under investigation by Bridgwater Township Police and Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit.

Residents are asked to continue to avoid Country Club Road between Alletra Avenue and Garretson Road for the ongoing investigation.
