Mayor Dan Hayes To Support Diabetes Alert Day

On Tuesday, 25 March 2014, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) will be encouraging the public to take the Diabetes Risk Test as well as to share the test with everyone they care about- friends, family members and colleagues. Mayor Hayes encourages all to join in the initiative to stop diabetes.

The Diabetes Risk Test asks users seven simple questions in an effort to determine their potential risk for pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes. Preventative tips are provided for everyone who takes the test. It also encourages those at high risk to talk with their health care providers about additional precautions to prevent diabetes.

The Bridgewater Township Mayors Wellness Task Force is joining the Movement to Stop Diabetes by encouraging all employees, residents and associates to take one minute out of their day to take the risk test. It's very simple. You can access the risk test online at http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-basics/prevention/diabetes-risk-test/. Paper copies will also be located at the Bridgewater Health Department and in the main lobby of the Township Municipal Complex for your convenience. Your completion of the anonymous survey provides direct assistance to the ADA. For each survey completed online between 25 March 2014 and 25 April 2014 Boars Head Deli Products has agreed to donate $5 to the ADA for a total amount of up to $50,000.

Studies have shown that type 2 diabetes can often be prevented or delayed through simple dietary changes or through a slight increase in regular physical activity. By understanding your risk you can take the necessary steps to help prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.

The Diabetes Risk Test. Take it. Share it. Make a difference. More information about the American Diabetes Association can be found at www.diabetes.org.
