On March 7, the community came together to “Move for Midland” and raise funds to support the special education programs and services offered at The Midland School and Midland Adult Services.

The 5th Annual Move for Midland Sponsored by PVH Corp. fundraising event raised nearly $70,000 through online peer-to-peer fundraising efforts. Approximately 400 participants including students, adults, volunteers, families and friends danced to the music of DJ Jean Marie of Entertainment with Sophistication and enjoyed free carnival games and the program presented by emcee Dave Luciano of Union Catholic High School.

The carnival-themed event featured performances and instruction by Judy Aldana and her Zumba crew and Robyn brought the crowd Party Line Dancing. There were prizes given out to top fundraisers, face painting, concessions and free games and prizes for all attendees.

Once again, local youth groups were instrumental to Move for Midland’s success. Not only did these young leaders fundraise online leading up to the event, but they each brought a special element to the event to make it a collaborative and fun night.

The Bridgewater High School Varsity & JV Cheerleaders kicked off the event with an on-stage performance dedicated to Midland. The squad sported matching shirts that read “BRHS Loves Midland” and they had special signs made up to lead the crowd in the “We Love Midland” cheer.

“Every year all of us look forward to the Move for Midland and starting the event off,” said BRHS Cheer Team Member, Emma Higgins. “The number of friendships we have formed with the students at Midland over the past couple years through clinics and events like these is something all of us cherish and will remember for a lifetime.”

Girl Scout Troop 60336 also volunteered as crowd motivators for the dancing portion of the event. The Troop went above and beyond and purchased 400 glow bracelets and handed them out on the dance floor during the event, bringing smiles to the faces of the children and adults.

Somerville High School by Kids for Kids joined the fun by participating in the event and creating a fundraising page to help reach the event goal.

Boy Scout Troop 90 volunteered to take care of clean up at the end of the event. The group of young men quickly and efficiently broke down tables, took down decorations and cleaned up the gym, and managed to have fun in the process, which is what Move for Midland is all about.

“It was a team effort and much of the event’s success came from the support of the outside Midland community,” says Midland’s President and CEO, Shawn McInerney. “The dedication of the committee, the hardworking volunteers and the support of the generous donors and sponsors made the fifth year of this event one of the biggest successes yet. We want to give a special thanks to our sponsors: Title Sponsor, PVH Corp., Supporter Sponsors, Cullari Carrico, Hunterdon Healthcare, Paradigm Pioneers, Inc., TD Bank and Trinity Development Group, Booth Sponsors, Geoscape Solar, ShopRite, and Skylands Family Support, and Sponsor Ally Sponsor, Financial Resources Federal Credit Union.”
