Gov. Murphy 'Reaffirms NJ's Support For Ukrainian People' With Surprise Visit

Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy visited one of the schools of the Sheginiv community in Yavoriv Oblast on Thursday.

NEW JERSEY — During an international trip to Germany, Gov. Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy made a surprise pit stop in Ukraine on Thursday.

"Honored to visit Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine today to meet with Governor Maksym Kozytskyy, Shehyni Mayor Oksana Pavusko, refugees, displaced children, and orphans. Nearly a year after the Putin regime’s brutal invasion, we reaffirm our support for the Ukrainian people," tweeted Murphy.

The Murphys visited one of the schools of the Sheginiv community in Yavoriv Oblast, where families who were forced to leave their homes due to the attacks now live, Ukrainian Governor Kozytskyy said in a tweet.

Murphy left New Jersey on Wednesday night to attend the 59th Munich Security Conference being held on Friday. The Governor will lead a panel discussion entitled "Leveling Up: Sub-State Actors as Global Players." He will return to New Jersey on Monday afternoon.

Ahead of his appearance, Murphy announced on Wednesday that the state will move up its goal to reach 100 percent clean energy by 15 years — an initiative that will also require new cars sold in the state to be all-electric by 2035.
