NJ's 7th District A Top 10 Race To Watch In New CNN Analysis

It's going to be a close, heated race right here in the 7th Congressional District, which CNN is calling a top 10 race to watch in new their analysis.

CNN announced on Monday the 10 races to watch on Election Night across the United States, which included the race between Republican incumbent Leonard Lance and Democrat Tom Malinowski.

This was the only New Jersey race to make CNN's list.

"Can a moderate Republican survive in a swing district where disapproval with the President is creating significant headwinds?" questions CNN.

Lance, a five-term incumbent, did break away from his party and voted against the Republican tax bill and the GOP's 2017 effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. But CNN says despite those moves, Lance might not be able to escape the shadow cast by Trump and the GOP agenda.

Which would make room for challenger Democrat Tom Malinowski, a former State Department official in the district where Hillary Clinton carried by a single point.

The 7th Congressional Districtincludes all of Hunterdon County, and parts of Essex, Morris, Somerset, Union, and Warren counties.

Even Politico rated the race as a "toss-up."

Lance's top issue if elected is that he wants "to move forward on bipartisan main issues that confront the nation including fiscal responsibility, internationalism — I am a supporter of NATO and other organizations — immigration, and healthcare."

Malinowski's "first priority is to replace the tax bill that the GOP congress passed last year. I want to restore state and local tax deductions, build a tax system that is more fiscally responsible and favorable to the middle class in New Jersey."
