Patriots Defeat Bluefish On July 4th

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 7-5 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.

 

The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Ty Wright drew a bases loaded walk and Damaso Espino hit an RBI single.

The Bluefish answered with two runs in the top of the second on a home run by Denny Almonte (7).

Somerset regained the lead with five runs in the bottom of the second. Jonny Tucker had an RBI single and Cory Harrilchak followed with an RBI double. Wright later drew his second bases loaded walk of the game and then Brian Barden followed with a two-run single to make the score 7-2.

 

Bridgeport cut the lead to 7-5 on a three-run home run by Prentice Redman (4) in the top of the third inning.

 

Patriots starter Gary Moran (6-3) picked up the win, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings pitched. Jesse English (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on a hit in an inning pitched. Jon Hunton earned his 22nd save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday evening with a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
