Camden, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (15-8) defeated the Camden Riversharks (7-17) 5-2 Monday evening from Campbell’s Field in the series opener. The Patriots now lead the Turnpike Series 5-2.
In the bottom of the first inning right fielder Brian Van Kirk hit a RBI sacrifice fly to give Camden an early 1-0 advantage.

The Riversharks added a run in the home half of the fourth inning to make the score 2-0 as center fielder Alex Hudak recorded a RBI single.

Somerset cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth inning as shortstop Edwin Maysonet hit a RBI groundout making the contest 2-1.
The Patriots scored three runs with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to catapult in front and take a 4-2 lead. Third baseman Corey Smith sliced a two RBI double while first baseman Robbie Widlansky socked a RBI single.
In the top of the eighth inning the Patriots added an insurance run as Maysonet brought home a run via a RBI sacrifice fly to increase Somerset’s lead to 5-2.
Matt Zielinski (3-0) earned the win with a quality outing as he tossed six innings and allowed just two runs. Jake Hale (1-2) suffered the loss throwing 5.2 innings while allowing four runs. Jon Hunton notched the save (5) pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
