Police Save Life Of Box Cutter-Wielding Man In Raritan

Raritan Police said they were able to de-escalate the situation after the man started to demand that the officers shoot him.

RARITAN, NJ — When Raritan Police found a man threatening to take his own life, they used their training to save his life.

On March 9 at 10:48 p.m., Raritan officers were called to a home on a report of a suicidal man, according to police.

Officers found a 35-year-old Raritan man in his bedroom who started to demand that the officers shoot him as he picked up a box cutter, said police.

The man continued to say that he wanted to die, said police.

After several minutes, officers were able to de-escalate the situation and the man dropped the box cutter, said police.

The man agreed to be voluntarily taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
