Prosecutor's Office Investigates Fatal Crash Where 17-Year-Old Branchburg Boy Was Ejected

BRANCHBURG, NJ — The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office is investigating after a 17-year-old Branchburg boy was killed in a car crash on Friday night.

The teen was identified as Somerville High School student Vincent R. Gagliardi, who was a front seat passenger on the 2006 Toyota Scion during the crash, said Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

At around 8:21 p.m. on Friday, Branchburg Township Police went to the single motor vehicle crash on Fairview Drive in Branchburg.

Officers along with Emergency Medical personnel began life-saving measures on Gagliardi who was ejected from the car, said Robertson.

Gagliardi was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Robertson.

A preliminary investigation found that the Scion was being driven westbound on Fairview Drive prior to the crash and hit several roadside objects including a telephone pole across several hundred feet of roadway, said Roberston.

The Scion had three people inside at the time of the crash. The driver and rear-seat passenger were evaluated and treated at the scene, and refused further medical treatment, said Robertson.

Detectives from the Branchburg Township Police Department, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, and the Major Crimes Unit are investigating.

The circumstances and events leading to the fatal motor vehicle remain under investigation.
