BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Three positive coronavirus cases are being reported at Bridgewater schools. The case comes not even one week after the Bridgewater-Rartian Regional School District officially reopened for in-person learning last Monday.

One case was reported at Hillside Intermediate School and two more at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

Hillside Principal William P. Ferry sent the letter to parents on Sunday night informing them that someone at the school tested positive for COVID-19. It is unclear if the person was a student, teacher or staff member.

Cleaning and disinfection of all exposed areas have been completed at the school. The school is also taking precautions to prevent the introduction and spread of viruses and other germs, including a thorough cleaning of frequently touched surfaces daily, according to Ferry.

"The status of this situation is fluid, and we are monitoring it closely," Ferry said.

Ferry asked parents and students to continue following the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) promoted safeguards, such as:

  • Staying home when you are sick;
  • Washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds;
  • Covering coughs and sneezes and properly disposing of tissues;
  • Limiting close contact with people who are sick and not sharing food, drinks and utensils;
  • Practicing social distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart);
  • Wearing a face covering while in school; and
  • Continuing to monitor your health for symptoms.
