Public Comment Sought About Franklin Bridge

Freeholder Patricia Walsh, public works liaison, invites citizens to provide input about Bridge K0607, which is located where New Brunswick Road crosses Al’s Brook, between Cedar Grove Lane and Willow Avenue. 

Because recent inspections of the bridge have classified it as “structurally deficient,” the first of two Public Information Center meetings will be held Thursday, May 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the Council Chambers of the Franklin Township Municipal Building, located at 475 DeMott Lane.

“Temporary shoring has been put in place to make it safe, but plans need to be developed for either the long-term restoration or replacement of this structurally deficient bridge,” said Freeholder Walsh, public works liaison.  “We encourage interested citizens to attend the meeting and provide input for a Local Concept Development Study about restoration alternatives.” 

Restoration factors to be considered include impact on the environment, right-of-way, traffic, access and utilities. 

Coordinated by Somerset County, in cooperation with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) and the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the Local Concept Development Study is being funded by the federal government with oversight by the Federal Highway Administration in accordance with the Federal National Environmental Policy Act and in compliance with the NJTPA’s Local Capital Project Delivery Program.  F
