Quick Chek Withdraws Plan to Build in Bridgewater
Quick Check officials say they will still leave options open for a future second location in Bridgewater.

Bridgewater, NJ -- After months of opposition from township residents, Quick Chek is withdrawing its application to proceed with plans to open a convenience market and gas station on Route 22 in Bridgewater.
The plan had called for a 24-hour, 5,700-square-foot convenience market on Route 22 East at the site of the vacant 5.47-acre Tectonic property. There also would have been 16 gas pumps and two deisel pumps.
This would have been a second location in Bridgewater, to go along with its existing store on Union Avenue.

Quick Chek had submitted the proposal to the zoning board asking for a use variance for the location since “service stations” are not allowed.
Quick Chek Corporation was met with strong opposition from neighboring residents as they packed each meeting and stretched out the proceedings on the hearing since June. Residents would line up voicing their concerns taking up the entire three-hour time limit.

The majority of concerns had to do with traffic, safety, air quality, visual sight of the building from Route 28 and more.
The last zoning board meeting was held on Feb. 3.
“The Whitehouse Station, NJ-based company feels that as a result of the many site concessions sought for the store, including the removal of a driveway connecting to Route 28, it would not be able to provide the services and benefits that it promises to its customers, services and benefits those customers have come to expect from the award-winning fresh convenience market chain,” Quick Chek Corporation wrote in a press release issued tonight, Feb. 19.
Quick Chek also stated it is leaving options open for a future second location in Bridgewater.
