Rain Cancels First Cruise Night Of The Season In Someville

Severe thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rain and gusts as high as 20 mph on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

SOMERVILLE, NJ — The kick-off to Somerville's Cruise Night has been rained out due to the predicted forecast of severe thunderstorms Friday.

"Due to the impending threat of rain and storms, our first Cruise Night of the season is canceled. We look forward to seeing everyone next week!" said Downtown Somerville New Jersey.

For more than 30 years, Somerville has hosted Friday Cruise Nights on Main Street in Somerville. It is the largest cruise night on the east coast, according to Downtown Someville.

Locals from all over bring their classic and tricked-out cars to line up on Main Street for visitors to see. Cruise Nights are held on Fridays from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information visit downtownsomerville.com.

Saturday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62.

Memorial Day: Sunny, with a high near 90.
