Raritan Dedicates Tree In Honor Of Woman Who Died In Ida Flood In Bridgewater

RARITAN, NJ — Raritan dedicated a tree at Frelinghuysen Park in memory of Borough resident Malathi Kanche who died in Hurricane Ida's floodwaters in Bridgewater.

The dedication took place this past Saturday, Nov. 6 with many coming out to pay their respects including her family who place flowers around the base of the tree, according to tapinto.net.

Kanche, 46, went missing when she was driving back from Rutgers University on Sept. 1 with her daughter. Flash flood waters overwhelmed her car as she was passing by Route 22 in front of the Lexus dealership in Bridgewater, Mansi said. Read More: Search For Woman Missing In Bridgewater Flood Waters

Kanche and her daughter got out of the car to escape. Kanche's daughter knew how to swim and was able to swim to the dealership and was rescued. Kanche did not know how to swim and was last seen near the dealership, Mansi said.
