Register for Therapeutic Recreation Summer Program
Summer Explorations begins June 29

Registration is now open for the Somerset County Park Commission Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Summer Exploration 2020 at the TR Activity Center at Park Commission Headquarters, 355 Milltown Road (at North Branch Park), in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Summer Explorations 2020 (formally Camp Okee Sunokee) is a new summer program open to children ages 8 to 14 with learning disabilities, Asperger's Syndrome, high functioning autism, or a mild intellectual disability. The program is designed to encourage the development of recreation and social skills through the participation in a variety of activities including arts & crafts, sports & games, music, cooking, trips, and swimming.
Six one-week sessions will be offered from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. each week beginning June 29, 2020. The sessions will address a different theme each week and will include a variety of activities, special guests, swimming, and a trip.

Enchanted Earth - June 29-July 2 (No program July 3)
Explore a variety of facets about the Earth from gardening to wild weather, creepy bugs, recycling, and going green.

Big Top Adventures - July 6-July 10
Participants will learn circus skills including balancing, juggling, spinning, and more in addition to learning about circus animals.
Inventors Workshop - July 13-July 17
Participants will learn to think outside the box, exploring the most important inventions and inventors, discovering how they transformed the world. Participants will create their own games, musical instruments, a green screen movie clip with Tony Kennette, and more.
Game On - July 20-July 24
Participants will play familiar games from Foursquare to tag while learning new games and building their skills playing a variety of sports including soccer, tennis, and baseball. The Somerset Patriots will visit to teach us baseball skills.
Space is the Place - July 27-July 31
Participants will learn what it takes to be an astronaut, creating a solar oven and moon rocks, cooking using the power of the sun, learning how to make astronaut ice cream, and participating in fun space-themed games.
Mission Impossible - August 3-August 7
This program features fun-filled, hands-on, secret agent-themed science activities that allow kids to play detective, explore forensic science, sharpen surveillance
skills, and crack encrypted messages.
Applications are available online at www.somersetcountyparks.org on the Therapeutic Recreation page. Fee is $175.00 per weekly session for people living in participating municipalities; $250.00 per weekly sessions for non-participating municipalities; and $332.50 for out-of-county residents (registration beginning May 1, 2020).

Therapeutic Recreation is run in partnership with 16 Somerset County municipalities. Programs provide opportunities for any child or adult needing specially designed programs and residing in Bedminster, Bernardsville, Bernards Township, Bound Brook, Branchburg, Bridgewater, Green Brook, Hillsborough, Manville, Montgomery, North Plainfield, Raritan, Somerville, South Bound Brook, Warren, or Watchung to avail themselves of program offerings.
