Roadwork Closes I-78 Lane For The Weekend In Somerset County

The roadwork will begin on Friday night and continue through Monday on the Bedminster and Bridgewater border.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — A lane on Interstate 78 will be closed throughout the weekend for roadwork.

The right lane and shoulder will be closed on the westbound side after the Interstate 287 merge in Bedminster starting Friday at 8 p.m. It will be closed through Monday at 6 a.m. for concrete deck pouring, according to the New Jeraey Department of Transportation.

Two lanes will be maintained throughout the weekend using the temporary bridge in the median. Expect congestion and delays, said NJDOT.

The $6.9 million federally-funded project will replace the existing bridge carrying I-78 westbound over the North Branch of the Raritan River, which is in poor condition.

Construction will take place in multiple stages to maintain three lanes in each direction on I-78 during construction. A temporary bridge has been built to carry two lanes of traffic with one lane maintained on the existing bridge during construction.
