Rough Start To School, Bus Service 'Unacceptable' In Bridgewater-Raritan

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District is changing bus routes after what Superintendent Robert Beers described as an "unacceptable" start to school transportation service.

"Our transportation service was unacceptable during the opening days of school," Beers said in a message to the community on Friday.

"Some routes were too long and were delayed, leaving families guessing about their students' whereabouts. That is not the service this community should receive, and it is nowhere near the standards we work to uphold as an institution," said Beers.

Beers said the district began tracking arrival and dismissal times at every school starting on the first day.

He said the district has also adjusted arrival and departure routines at school buildings and is using live route data to find ways to make routes more efficient.

The next step is changing specific routes that are too long, overcrowded or late, according to Beers.

"Those adjustments will roll out over the coming days and weeks," said Beers.

Beers thanked families for their feedback and patience as the district continues working on transportation service.

"I appreciate the feedback from the community and the patience you have shown," Beers said. "We are working to meet the challenge we face, and we will continue until our transportation service is where it needs to be."
