The lane closures are necessary to restripe the road and shift traffic to create a work zone in the median. Construction barrier is expected to be installed next week.

In addition, the left turn lanes in both directions from Route 202 to Old York Road/CR 637 and the U-Turn ramps are scheduled to be closed and detoured at the same time. The following detours will be in place:

By 8 a.m., Saturday, all lanes on Route 202 will be reopened in both directions with traffic shifted to the right, away from the median.

This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place for several months and is necessary to make operational and safety improvements to the intersection.

Improvements include reconstructing the median, removing the U-turn jughandles, drainage and curb work, paving the left turn lanes, and updating traffic signals.

This work is part of the $2.6 million state-funded project that will make operational and safety improvements where Route 202 intersects with Old York Road in Branchburg, Somerset County.

This project will permanently close the U-turns at the intersection in both the northbound and southbound directions, mill and pave the roadway, reconstruct curbs, and improve median drainage. The project is expected to be completed in late 2024.
