Search For Stranger Who Saved Bridgewater Dog That Was Hit By Car
Betty bolted out of a home in the Sunset Lake section of the township after a deer before being hit by a car on Interstate 78.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A Bridgewater family is crediting a Good Samaritan for saving their dog's life after being hit by a car on Interstate 78. Now Susan Lorig and her family are searching for the mystery woman in an effort to thank her.
"If it wasn't for her my dog would've been plastered all over the highway," said Lorig, who lives in the Sunset Lake section of the township along I-78.
The accident happened last Thursday, Oct. 6, when Betty a one-year-old Australian Cattledog mix saw a deer outside and bolted out the front door to chase it, said Lorig.

Lorig's husband Kyle ran after the dog but Betty ran up the hill that is covered with briar bushes and through a hole in the state fence onto the highway. She was hit by a car and that person did not stop, said Lorig.
Luckily, another woman stopped her car and picked Betty up off the highway and saved her life, said Lorig.

Kyle heard the woman screaming and ran up to find Betty in her arms injured.
Betty was rushed to an animal hospital in Red Bank as she was not moving and bleeding from her rear end.
She had been hit in the back and had body and vertebrae fractures, said Lorig.
Betty underwent surgery and is now home recovering. However, it will be a long road as Lorig said she is not supposed to move much for the next two months and then face physical therapy.
Lorig just wants to find the woman to thank her and let her know how Betty is doing.
"This poor lady, just to be wondering if Betty is dead or alive. It would be nice to thank her," said Lorig.
Overall, the vet bills came to $12,000 The family started a GoFundMe page to raise funds to go to her vet bills, physical therapy, and help with her healing process.
More than $1,000 has been raised as of Tuesday.
"The generosity of people is unbelievable," said Lorig.
