See Funnel Cloud Form Over Somerset County: Video

A severe band of storms hit the area on Sunday night. More storms are expected throughout the week. See the upcoming forecast:

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Severe storms hit the Somerset County area on Sunday causing heavy rain, lighting, thunder, and what appeared to be a funnel cloud forming in the area. (See video below)

On Sunday around 7:15 p.m., a funnel cloud could be seen from the Route 202 bridge over the Somerville Circle and along the highway into the Bradley Gardens section of Bridgewater.

Several cars stopped along the highway to watch the cloud which appeared to be forming somewhere in the Raritan/Bridgewater or possibly Hillsborough area.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Patchy fog between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. High near 81. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Low around 64. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A chance of showers before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 80. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Friday: A chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Friday Night: A chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
