Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Somerset County

A severe thunderstorm was detected nearby that could bring 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail on Tuesday.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for parts of Somerset County Tuesday by the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

The warning encompasses southeastern Hunterdon County, Mercer County, southwestern Somerset County, southwestern Middlesex County, and east central Bucks County. The warning is in effect through 4 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Somerset County Public Safety.

At 3:15 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over New Hope, or 13 miles northwest of Trenton, moving east at 45 mph. that could bring 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, according to Somerset County Public Safety.

Minor damage to vehicles, and wind damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines is possible.

Rain is expected to linger of the next few days in the area.

Here's the National Weather Service's latest forecast for the Somerset County area:

Tuesday Afternoon: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 4 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Cloudy early, then becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 49. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Rain likely, mainly after 4 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 42. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Rain. Low around 36. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday: A chance of rain before 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of rain before 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 39. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 41. Breezy.
