Sheltered For Over A Year, This NJ Dog's Only Christmas Wish Is To Be Adopted

Bandit has been in the sheltering system for over a year and Somerset Regional Animal Shelter just wants to find him a furever home.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bandit's only Christmas wish is to be adopted.

Bandit, a 7-year-old Labrador Shephard mix, is currently at the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter(SRAS).

"He's a good boy, a little fearful in his kennel but once he gets to know you very sweet," said Rose Tropeano SRAS Assistant Shelter Manager.

He was originally at a shelter in Georgia where he had heartworm disease. He was then transferred to New Jersey where he was treated and then sheltered for about a year before SRAS took him in.

"He didn't have a lot of exposure at the other shelter so we brought him here," said Tropeano

Bandit has been at shelters for more than a year which is heartbreaking as the average adoption time for a pet is between 3 days to maybe a month, said SRAS Director Brian Bradshaw.

The shelter at 100 Commons Way in Bridgewater is open until 3:30 on Thursday and is open Friday, Christmas Eve from noon to 2 p.m.

The shelter will be closed on Christmas Day but will reopen Sunday from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Tropeano and Bradshaw both said it is their Christmas wish to see Bandit adopted for the holidays.

SRAS is a nonprofit organization that services pets in the Somerset County area. The shelter is always in need of donations. For more information on making donations or adoptions visit srasnj.org or facebook.com/somersetregionalanimalshelter.
