Skeeters Edge Patriots 5-4

Sugar Land, TX – The Sugar Land Skeeters (32-27) defeated the Somerset Patriots (39-21) 5-4 Thursday evening from Constellation Field. With the loss Somerset snapped its seven game winning streak.

 

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Skeeters smacked back-to-back home runs to take a 4-0 advantage. First baseman Nick Stavinoha slugged a three run home run (6) and second baseman Chase Lambin socked a solo blast (3).

Somerset plated three runs in the ensuing half inning to cut the deficit to 4-3. Left fielder Aharon Eggleston slapped a two RBI triple while designated hitter Mike Wilson drilled a RBI single.

Center fielder Luis Montanez evened the contest at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning as he hit a RBI sacrifice fly.

 

Sugar Land regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when shortstop Taylor Harbin tallied a RBI sacrifice fly making the score 5-4 which would be the final score.

 

Roy Corcoran (2-0) earned the win in relief. Matt Maloney (3-3) sustained the loss as he hurled seven innings while allowing five runs and just four earned. Gary Majewski notched the save (11) pitching a scoreless final frame.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, June 30th when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
