Somerset Co.'s COVID Cases Rise To 'High' Level: See Town-By-Town Updates

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — For the first time since last spring, Somerset County's COVID-19 transmission level has turned all orange, indicating "high" levels of COVID activity.

The state Department of Health's most recent "COVID-19 Activity Level Report," which is issued weekly, says all of New Jersey, including Somerset County, is now in the "orange zone" for coronavirus cases, dropping from the "red" zone in recent weeks. The "red zone" means the daily new COVID-19 virus case rate, per 100,000 people, is "very high" currently in 11 counties. That means they exceed 25 cases per 100,000 people over a seven-day average. The "orange" zone means they have a rate of 10 to 25 cases per 100,000 people.

As of Dec. 17, Somerset County has reported a total of 1,325 confirmed cases over the past week. In total, Somerset County has 31,938 confirmed cases and 787 fatalities since March 2020.

The municipality with the highest number of new cases over the past week was Franklin Township, with 249. Rocky Hill has the lowest number of cases with 2.
