“There is a wealth of resources out there to help small businesses at the state and federal level, and often small business owners don’t even know that they exist, let alone where to look,” said Yoder. “We want to extend a helping hand to businesses: learn about their challenges, connect them to resources, and ultimately show that Democrats are here to support small businesses in our community.”

The Business Liaison Team plans to hold regular events with guest speakers, including business leaders and elected officials, on a regular basis. The upcoming event will feature Congressman Tom Malinowski as a special guest and will be held via Zoom on August 19th at 12PM.

Additionally, the Business Liaison Team is hoping to hear from small businesses across the county. “Right now, we are in the process of sourcing ideas, concerns, and proposals about how we can make Somerset County a more business-friendly community,” said Yoder. “With Somerset County in full Democratic control for the first time, we have a unique opportunity to advance proposals that can help benefit our local business owners and residents. After all, small businesses are the backbone of our local economy.”

Somerset County Commissioner Sara Sooy, the liaison to the Business Partnership, is thrilled to see the SCDC strengthen its relationship with the local business community. “Private-public partnership, at all levels, has an integral role in Somerset County,” she remarked. “We highly value and support the business community that makes Somerset County the best place to work, live, and play!”
