Free Cardboard Drop-Off For New Somerset County Residents

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — New Somerset County residents with stacks of moving boxes have another recycling option in Bridgewater, where the Somerset County Recycling Division is accepting extra cardboard at no cost.

The county said the service is meant for residents who have more cardboard than they can cut into the standard 2-by-2-foot pieces required for curbside pickup.

Residents can bring untied cardboard directly to the Somerset County Recycling Center, 40 Polhemus Lane in Bridgewater, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The county said visitors should stop at the dispatch office when they arrive to get directions on where to place their boxes.

"As new residents settle in, services like this cardboard drop-off make it easier to join the County’s recycling efforts from day one," said Commissioner Melonie Marano. "From January 1 through July 31, 2026, Somerset County collected more than 15,000 tons of recycling. Every cardboard box recycled contributes to the strong environmental foundation our community continues to build, and I encourage new residents to take part in this County-wide initiative."

According to the county, the drop-off program offers a simpler way for people to clear out leftover moving boxes while settling into a new home.

The county described the service as a stress-free option that also supports Somerset County’s recycling efforts.
