SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ - Somerset County Freeholder Director Brian D. Levine announced he plans to try to reopen talks with Amazon about locating the company’s second headquarters – HQ2 – in Somerset County during a meeting Friday with the Somerset County Employers Legislative Committee.

However, talks with Amazon have not begun yet.

The county initially put in a bid for HQ2 but "the state nixed our idea and went only with Newark" despite what Levine says that Somerset County was "ahead of 90 percent of national proposals based on Amazon’s criteria."

This time around Levine is going to suggest a joint proposal with Newark.

"Then we would have an urban-suburban mix and diverse landscape, yet geographic proximity," Levine said.

Levine also plans to ask the governor’s office to support and sponsor this.

Levine will reach out to Amazon and also county towns to see if any are interested.
