Rivers Rise, Roads Close Due To Flooding In Somerset County

As a result of flooding, roadways including portions of Route 22 West, Griggstown Causeway, and Princeton Avenue are closed.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — As rain continues to fall on Thursday, rivers in the Somerset County area continue to rise and approach flooding stages. Roadways are also closing as a result.

As of 9:45 p.m.: Burnt Mills Road from Rattlesnake Bridge Road to Cowperthwaite Road is closed due to flooding.

The Middlebrook River at Burnt Mills is currently at the action stage at 8.44 feet high which is just below minor flooding at 9.5 feet, according to the NWS.

As of 8:20 p.m., Old York Road from Bridgewater to Branchburg is closed due to flooding. The North Branch Raritan River is at action stage at 8.06 feet high. It is predicted to rise to 9.6 feet by 8 a.m. Friday just below minor flooding at 10 feet.

As of 5:10 p.m., Route 22 West at Van Horne Road and Island Road is closed at the bridge in Readington due to flooding.

In Rocky Hill, Princeton Avenue north is closed between Hickory and Blue Springs due to flooding, Somerset County announced as of 5:15 p.m.

As of 5:36 p.m., there is high-standing water in the area of Route 206 and Falcon Road in Hillsborough. Drivers are asked to exercise caution while traveling through the area.

As of 9:45 p.m.: The following roads in Hillsborough are closed due to flooding: Blackpoint Road, Three Bridges Riad (between Woodfern and Hockenbury) and the Opie Rd Bridge.

As of 8 p.m. on April 7, the Millstone River at Griggstown is currently at the minor flooding stage at 10.57 feet high which is below moderate flooding at 12 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

As a result of the ongoing rain, Griggstown Causeway in Montgomery closed as of Wednesday afternoon and remains closed as of Thursday. Read More: Flooding Closes Griggstown Causeway, More Rain In Forecast

The Raritan River at Bound Brook is currently at 24.64 feet high which is expected to rise to 27.6 feet to the action stage by 4 p.m. on Friday. This is just below minor flooding at 28 feet, according to the NWS.

The Raritan River at Manville is currently at 9.81 feet and is expected to continue to rise to 13 feet in the action stage by 10 a.m. Friday.

The Millstone River at Blackwells Mills is currently at 6.16 feet and is expected to continue to rise to 8.9 feet in the action stage by 4 p.m. Friday. This is just below minor flooding at 9 feet.

A flash flood watch has been issued for Somerset County as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue through Friday morning. The watch, issued by the National Weather Service, is in effect through 2 a.m. on Friday. Read More: Flood Watch Issued For Somerset County As Rain Continues
