Somerville Restaurant Owners Meet With Philippine Consulate General

Discuss Filipino cuisine

Cynthia and Tyrone Conshue, owners of Pinoy Filipino Restaurant located at 18 Division Street in Somerville, New Jersey recently joined Consul General Mario de Leon, Jr. at the Philippine Consulate General in New York City to kick-off of the second annual Filipino Restaurant Week.

Joined by Filipio restaurant owners from New York and New Jersey, the event served to increase that awareness, taste, and beauty of Filipino cuisine.

The Conshues prepared lunch for approximately 60 attendees, explaining the origins of the food and how Pinoy is focused on making the restaurant a top Somerset County, New Jersey destination while introducing Filipino food to the mainstream diners.

Tyrone Conshue noted that some eateries highlight the Balut or the Dinuguan but not so the more appealing food that brings out the color and flavor of the islands. “We need to see the beauty in our own food,” he said.

While Filipino food may not yet have reached the mainstream, Consul General de Leon suggested that the growth of Filipino Restaurant week is giving positive exposure to what Filipino food is all about.
