Students help organize the "Veterans’ Day" Ceremony 2023 at SCVTHS

Sree Isukapalli, Srujan Potturi, and Kavya Shah, as a part of the American Spirit team for their school’s chapter of SkillsUSA, worked with Mr. Graf (US Army Veteran and U.S. History teacher at their school) to invite multiple Gold-star families, veterans, and students to the “Veterans’ Day” ceremony on December 12th and 13th.
They began planning at the end of October and continued planning until December.
This event was planned to honor veterans, soldiers killed in action, and all of their families. The team called multiple locations, such as the American Legion and the VFW, to bring membered veterans to this honorable event. Additionally, they spoke to various Gold-Star mothers to invite them to attend this ceremony. The event provided a luncheon for the attending members as well.
Any veteran or Gold-Star family was invited to speak during the Veterans' Day Ceremony. Afterward, communication circles were created by gathering multiple chairs around one or two veterans or Gold-Star families to have them talk to the interested students. These students actively engaged throughout and learned a plethora of new information about each military service and personal experiences in each field.
Overall, the Veterans’ Day Ceremony was successful as it sincerely honored all veterans and soldiers killed in action. Sree, Srujan, Kavya, and other members involved are grateful that they got to honor and preserve the memory of these veterans and fallen soldiers. They hope to continue this event in the coming years and plan to pass it along to future classes as they graduate as well.
