Police Investigate Threat At Bridgewater-Raritan High School

Bridgewater Police are at the school district Tuesday as a precaution after they were made aware of the potential threat on social media.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater Police are at Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High SchoolTuesday morning as a precaution after investigating a non-credible threat that was posted on social media.

Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District Superintendent Robert Beers sent an email to the community on Monday night about the threat.

"A student from BRHS saw the threat on Snapchat and then sent it to friends," said Bridgewater Police Captain John Mitzak.

Once the district was made aware of the threat, officials immediately contacted Bridgewater Police.

The Snapchat was traced and was determined that it did not originate from this area or even New Jersey, said Mitzak.

"Please understand that the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District takes all of these allegations seriously and as a result, the district will have an increased law enforcement presence throughout the day [Tuesday]," said Beers.

Beers also noted that several schools across the country have also received random threats in the aftermath of the school shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan earlier this month. In New Jersey, Cherry Hill School District also reported a "generic" threat on Tuesday. Read More: Threat At Cherry Hill West Was 'Generic': Police

Students at Lindenwold High School and at Lawrence Township High School in Mercer County were recently caught bringing guns to school, as well.

"I applaud the efforts of our local police department along with the NJ state police who helped to deem this threat not credible," said Beers. "Unfortunately, this is the world we live in."
