Tornado Watch Issued For Somerset County Ahead Of Severe Storm

The storm could bring hail up to 2 inches in size and gusts of up to 70 mph on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A tornado watch is in effect for Somerset County Friday as severe weather moves into our area bringing the potential of hail up to 2-inches in size and gusts of up 70 mph.

The tornado watch is in effect through 7 p.m. on Friday, according to Accuweather.

The storm is expected to move into our area between 2 and 7 p.m. There is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms expected mainly after 5 p.m. bringing new rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch. Higher amounts of rain are possible in thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

Some of the storms, mainly before 8 p.m., could produce gusty winds up to 70 mph.

The rest of the night will experience patchy fog after 2 a.m.

Taking a look ahead at the weekend, a heat advisory has been issued for Somerset County on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Heat index values up to 100 are expected on Saturday.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
