Trapped Driver Rescued, Another Airlifted To Hospital In Branchburg Crash

Four people were hospitalized with injuries following a crash on Tuesday night in Branchburg.

BRANCHBURG, NJ — One driver was airlifted to a hospital with injuries and another driver, who was trapped in their car, was rescued by volunteer firefighters on Tuesday night in Branchburg.

On Nov. 26 at around 6 p.m., Branchburg Police was called to the area of Readington Road and Narragansett Drive for the report of a motor vehicle crash in the intersection.

Officers found a white 2025 Volkswagen Jetta with heavy front end damage occupied by a sole male driver facing southwest on Readington Road, said Branchburg Police Captain Edward Edgar.

The other involved vehicle, a 2014 white Ford Edge occupied by a 75-year-old male driver, a female front passenger, and a rear juvenile occupant, also had heavy front end damage and was facing southeast in the intersection of Readington Road at Narragansett Drive, said Edgar.

North Branch Volunteer Fire Company came to rescue the driver of the Ford Edge from the vehicle due to the damage on the front driver's side.

EMS was immediately called to the scene due to the apparent injuries of all people involved in the crash.

Somerset Robert Wood Johnson(RWJ) EMS, Branchburg Rescue EMS, and Somerset RWJ Paramedics came to help. After assessing the driver of the VW Jetta, New Jersey State Police Medivac was requested to take those injured to the hospital.

NJSP Medivac ultimately landed at a nearby airport in a neighboring jurisdiction and the driver of the VW Jetta was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital via helicopter as a result of his injuries.

The driver, passenger, and juvenile occupant of the Ford Edge were ultimately taken to New Brunswick RWJ Hospital via ambulance as a result of their injuries.

Readington Road was closed from D'Angelo Drive through Station Road until the crash scene could be cleared. Readington Police helped with traffic control.

Traffic traveling south on Readington Road was detoured at Station Road, and traffic traveling north on Readington Road was detoured at Harlan School Road until the crash scene could be cleared.

The underlying cause of the crash remains ongoing.
