Tuition Hike At Raritan Valley Community College Approved For Fall 2022

The new tuition of $174 per credit would take effect for the Fall 2022 Semester.

BRANCHBURG, NJ — Raritan Valley Community College students will see an increase in their tuition for the upcoming fall semester.

"In an effort to balance keeping a college education affordable, while still maintaining the critical academic and support services that are vital to student success, Raritan Valley Community College Board of Trustees has made the difficult decision to raise tuition $6 per credit," according to a release from the college.

During its Tuesday night meeting, the board passed the new tuition of $174 per credit which would take effect for the Fall 2022 Semester.

"The pandemic continues to impact enrollment at the College, as so many of our students are experiencing ongoing financial hardships that affect their educational plans. We have tried to keep tuition costs affordable, while still maintaining RVCC’s excellent educational offerings and support for students that are essential to our core mission of teaching and learning," said RVCC President Michael J. McDonough.

What does this mean?

For the average full-time student taking 30 credits during the academic year, tuition would increase by $180. For the average part-time student taking 12 credits during the academic year, tuition would increase by $72.

Fall 2022 Tuition Schedule:

  • Hunterdon/Somerset County Residents - $174 per credit
  • Out-of-county residents (Board grants a waiver of $80 per credit to students who provide verification of employment in Somerset or Hunterdon Counties) - $254per credit
  • Out-of-state residents - $254per credit
  • Early College Program - $220 for all courses taken at participating high schools.
  • Hunterdon/Somerset senior citizens minimum age 65. One course per semester on a space available basis. May register during the five business days prior to course start. - No tuition assessed; $50 enrollment service fee. Course books/materials extra cost. Audit status, no credit awarded.
  • NJ National Guard and Reserves - Free tuition for up to 16 credits per term for individual only; fees apply.
  • Volunteer Emergency Medical Personnel and Firefighters - Free tuition for up to $600 per year and $2,400 lifetime per family of volunteer; fees apply.
  • September 11 Victims' Families - Free tuition for children and spouses of victims; fees apply.

The College’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget will be voted on at the April Board of Trustees meeting, which is scheduled for April 26.
