Upcoming Vigil Honors Domestic Violence Victims In Somerset Co.
The annual "candles of hope" vigil, held by Safe + Sound Somerset, marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
SOMERVILLE, NJ — Candles and kites will brighten the night Wednesday, as community members gather in Somerville to honor victims and survivors of domestic violence.
Safe + Sound Somerset is hosting their annual vigil for Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the Somerset County Courthouse Green (20 N. Bridge Street). The rain date is Thursday, Oct. 19. This organizations offers 24/7 assistance to survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Speakers include representatives from Safe + Sound Somerset, the county prosecutor's office, and the Presbyterian Church at Bound Brook. Guest singer Myrna Lloyd will also be at the vigil. Participants can also purchase a "kite of hope" to display at the vigil, with a minimum $5 donation to support Safe + Sound Somerset's services.
