Somerset County Pool Remains Closed Due To Lifeguard Shortage

Somerset County Park Commission has increased its pay and is offering free training in an effort to attract more lifeguards.

WARREN, NJ — A lifeguard shortage continues to impact a Somerset County pool.

Warrenbrook Pool at 500 Warrenville Road in Warren remains closed and has yet to open for the summer season due to the shortage.

With no luck, the county last week increased its pay from $16.50 to $20 per hour for Lifeguard employees. Additionally, training and certification are free upon hiring. Both were done in an effort to attract more people.

Guidelines for Applicants

Applicants must be 15 years of age or older. They should also be reliable, available to work various shifts and attend training, possess strong communication skills, and be able to enforce the rules and policies of the pool.

Lifeguards must be certified as a lifeguard and have CPR/AED certification. The park commission will help applicants become certified by offering a free American Red Cross Lifeguarding course. For more information, call 908-722-1200, ext. 5239.
