Water Pipe Bursts, Floods Alfonso's Family Restaurant In Somerville

"We don't have an exact date yet, but we should be back in business very soon," wrote the longtime beloved family restaurant.

SOMERVILLE, NJ — Alfonso's Family Trattoria & Gourmet Pizzeria is closed until further notice after a water pipe burst and flooded the restaurant this past weekend.

The restaurant at 99 W Main St. in Somerville posted messages on its front windows and Facebook page at Alfonso's Somerville announcing the news.

"One Saturday night, we had a water pipe burst on the third floor. In minutes, our first floor was starting to flood," wrote Alfonoso's Management. "We have a great team already working towards our reopening."

Peeking inside the windows on Tuesday, you can see floor tiles were already ripped up in the entryway, and industrial fans being used to dry things out.

A reopening date has not been set.

"We don't have an exact date yet, but we should be back in business very soon. We appreciate all the support you have show us, and we're very excited to be able to serve you again," wrote Alfonoso's Management.

Alfonso's Family Trattoria & Gourmet Pizzeria has been a Somerville tradition for 45 years. Alfonso's was founded by Aniello Ianniello, who immigrated from Naples Italy to Brooklyn, NY in 1954 before moving to Central Jersey and opening Alfonso's in Somerville in 1978.

According to its website, the restaurant boasts many awards including being voted the "Best Italian Restaurant in Somerset County", "Best Pizzeria in Somerset County", and "Best Family Restaurant in Somerset County."
