Zielinski Shines In Patriots 5-1 Win

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 5-1 before a season high 8,012 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening.

 

The Patriots took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run double by Eddy Martinez-Esteve and an RBI single by Adam Donachie.

The Patriots extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth scoring two more runs. Aharon Eggleston scored on a bases loaded walk. Brian Barden scored shortly after on a wild pitch giving the Patriots a 5-0 lead.

Luis Rodriguez put the Bluefish on the board with an RBI double cutting the lead to 5-1 in the seventh inning.

 

Patriots starter Matt Zielinski (6-2) picked up the win with a complete game, allowing a run on three hits and eight strikeouts. Bluefish starter DJ Mitchell (3-5) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in 4.1 innings pitched.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday afternoon with a 1:05 pm double header against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
