The Caldwell West Caldwell Education Foundation (CWCEF) is racing to go as final plans are set for their 10th annual Caldwell Classic 5k scheduled for Saturday, May 16.
The Caldwell Classic will once again be held at James Caldwell High School (JCHS) beginning with an 8:00 am fun run, followed by an 8:15 Dash for Children Ages 5 and under and culminating in the main 5K Run/Walk at 8:45 am at James Caldwell High School (JCHS).
The 5K will again route runners and walkers up Westville Avenue and into historic Grover Cleveland Park where participants will race to the pond before entering Brookside Avenue and returning to JCHS. Water stations will be available at each mile marker.
For the one mile fun run, participants will twice take a loop up Woodmere Road, and turn on Westville Avenue to return to JCHS.
The 5K Run/Walk honors the legacy of founding members Theresa DiMasi and Marie LanFrank, whose legacies and vision of helping every student succeed in the Caldwell West Caldwell (CWC) district is still very much at the heart of The Foundation’s mission today.
In the past, the 5k has attracted over 600 runners and walkers for its family and community centered event. This year’s event will begin at 7 am with Event registration, as well as children’s activities including the children’s dash at JCHS, a DJ, and sponsor giveaways before the actual main race.
For the 5K, prizes will be awarded to the overall top male and female finishers as well as awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers by age group as well as a finisher medal for every registered participant.
In addition to attracting professional and serious runners, other participants in the CWCEF include teachers and principals in the district, as well as entire families. “Every year we evaluate what worked at the Caldwell Classic and build on this to incorporate improvements to keep the momentum for this annual event,” commented 5K Chairperson Terri DiMartini-Greenlee.
100 percent of profits generated from the CWCEF 5K target programs benefitting all children in the Caldwell West Caldwell school district. The not for profit Foundation has helped to fund educational programs and purchase equipment for classroom use that would not necessarily be available within the district’s budget.
Since the Education Foundation’s inception in 2005, over $350,000 has been awarded to fund programs and equipment such as a business modeling program at JCHS, STEM programs and Robotics equipment, a weather bug station for Grover Cleveland Middle School (GCMS), MacBooks for the Broadcast booth at JCHS Media Center, an equestrian support program for special needs students at GCMS, and purchases of updated books for both the elementary school classrooms and media centers.
