2 Incidents At W. Caldwell School; Stun Gun, Driver Punched: Cops

A teen allegedly assaulted a bus driver. Another brought a stun gun to school, West Caldwell police said.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — West Caldwell police recently responded to two separate incidents involving students at Essex Valley School, authorities said.

According to the West Caldwell Police Department, a school bus driver called 911 on the morning of Dec. 16 after a 17-year-old student at Essex Valley School assaulted him.

“The victim explained that he had observed the juvenile female attempting to reach for his wallet, at which time he moved his wallet to the dashboard of the bus, causing the juvenile female to punch him in the face.”

Police arrested the West Orange resident and transported her to Essex County Family Court.

Another incident involving a student at Essex Valley School took place at 12:37 p.m. on Dec. 18, authorities said.

According to the West Caldwell Police Department, an officer responded to 1 Henderson Drive after receiving a report that a student brandished a stun gun.

The student, 16-year-old female from Jersey City, allegedly got into an argument with another student, then took a stun gun out of her bag. She then walked around the school cafeteria with the weapon, activating it and creating a “spark display,” authorities said.

Police arrested the student and charged her with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (3rd degree), possession of prohibited weapons (4th degree) and unlawful possession of weapons (4th degree).

She was transported to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center, police said.
