2 Suspected Car Burglars Arrested In North Caldwell: Police

Police in North Caldwell arrested two suspected car burglars and seized an illegally possessed gun, authorities said.

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — Police in North Caldwell arrested two suspected car burglars and seized an illegally possessed gun on Wednesday, authorities said.

The North Caldwell Police Department released a statement about the incident. Authorities wrote:

“At approximately 4:30 a.m., patrol units observed two suspicious individuals wearing all black clothing and ski masks in the area of Gould and Central Avenue. Due to prior reports of attempted motor vehicle burglaries in Caldwell, Sergeant O’Neill, Officer Krueser and Officer Johnson approached the individuals to further investigate.”

“While speaking with the individuals, both parties were frisked for weapons. It was at this time, Sergeant O’Neill observed a loaded handgun in the waistband of one of the individuals. The handgun was defaced and possessed illegally by the suspect. Sergeant O’Neill was able to seize the weapon off the individual without incident. Further investigation determined the two suspects were seen on a ring doorbell attempting to burglarize a motor vehicle in the area of Park Avenue. Both individuals were placed under arrest without incident.”

“We continue to urge our residents to stay diligent and continue to lock your vehicles at all times,” police continued. “If you see something suspicious, please contact police headquarters at 973-226-0800, or dial 911.”
