After Threat At Middle School In Caldwell, Superintendent Gives Update
Caldwell-West Caldwell Superintendent Christopher Conklin said a student who allegedly made a threat will not return to school this year.
CALDWELL, NJ — Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools Superintendent Dr. Christopher Conklin gave an update Monday about what led to an increased police presence at Grover Cleveland Middle School this week.
Conklin said that a student was found to have written swastikas in a school bathroom last week, and later, the same student was found to have made a separate threat.
Conklin could not elaborate on the other threat, but added, "The student will not be returning to the school for the remainder of the school year."

Police in Caldwell had written a post on Facebook on Sunday saying that they were made aware of an "incident" reported at the local middle school on Friday, and would have police officers at the school.
When contacted Sunday, Conklin said, "The administration takes any and all reported threats very seriously. When the school's administrators were made aware of the reported threats made by a student at Grover Cleveland Middle School, they contacted the Caldwell and West Caldwell Police."

He had added Sunday, "I cannot comment on student matters as they are privileged and confidential. I also cannot comment on an active police investigation. However, I can report that the Caldwell Police responded immediately and are investigating the threats. The school’s administrators will reinforce the district’s safety and security plan and follow all guidance from the local police departments."
Police wrote Sunday, "The Caldwell Police Department was made aware of the incident reported to the parents of the GCMS on Friday and we are actively investigating the matter. In line with what the PD already does, we will have police officers at the school in an effort to be proactive as we always have extra vigilance in and around all of our schools."
The police concluded the post with, "In an effort to help us, we continue to ask the public if you see something, say something."
Grover Cleveland Middle School in Caldwell is part of the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District.
