The full message from North Caldwell officials follows below:

Dear Residents,

Over the past several months, the Borough has provided updates regarding New Jersey's new e-bike regulations, which take effect on July 1, 2026. The State has now issued its final guidance, and eligible riders may begin registering their e-bikes and obtaining the appropriate license, where required.

To help residents prepare for these changes, the North Caldwell Police Department will continue its educational outreach during the 20-day grace period, which runs through July 20, 2026. During this time, officers may contact riders operating e-bikes that do not appear to comply with the new regulations. The purpose of these contacts is to educate riders and parents, promote safety, and provide an opportunity to come into compliance before enforcement begins.

The Borough has also posted information on the municipal website under the Current News Flash section and on the North Caldwell Police Department's E-Bike Awareness page. Residents will find:

We encourage all riders and parents to review the new regulations issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) and take any necessary steps before July 20, 2026, when enforcement begins.

By working together now, we can help ensure a safer environment for everyone who uses our roadways, parks, and neighborhoods.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to keeping our community safe.
