Bomb Threat Caller Yet to be ID'ed

One week later, West Caldwell Police say no suspects have been identified.

Police are still working to identify the caller who made a bomb threat on 's voicemail last week.

According to police, a male voice saying he was going to bomb the school. The threatening message was left on Wed. Jan. 4 at 6:19 p.m., while the public high school was closed. It was heard the following morning by a school employee who immediately told administrators, who then notified police.

"No suspects have been identified yet," West Caldwell Police Chief Michael Bramhall said Wednesday.

Last Thursday, students were evacuated just moments before their first period classes were scheduled to begin. The Essex County Bomb Squad searched the school for explosives with three dogs, but came up empty. Students returned to classes about an hour and a half later.

When asked about the bomb scare at Monday's Board of Education meeting, Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools Superintendent Daniel Gerardi said there was nothing new to report.

"There's no additional information from what we reported and sent home to parents," Gerardi said.

One email was sent to parents as students were being evacuated from the building, and another went out after authorities declared the school safe.
