HLADIK and O'HERN for West Caldwell Council 2012: Leadership, Rising to the Challenge
West Caldwell Council President Stan Hladik and Councilman Tom O’Hern share a common sense approach to protecting and enhancing West Caldwell’s investments. While this approach includes general improvements to infrastructure, a greater focus on preventive maintenance is also being taken. West Caldwell has continued to seek technology upgrades, roadway preservation projects, building improvements, parks and grounds maintenance and servicing the water and sewer systems underground. “Stan and Tom have led the charge on many of these projects, and have accomplished a lot, even during these difficult economic times” said Mayor Joseph Tempesta.
Among his accomplishments, Councilman Stan Hladik led the effort to reduce operating expenses and prioritize capital improvements resulting in a historic 0% municipal tax increase to residents in 2012. Hladik said, “We have done what many businesses have done in these times; reduced our expenses. We continue to look for ways to make government more efficient, share services where it makes sense, take advantage of grant opportunities and trim expenses in areas that do not impact the service to our residents.”
Councilman Tom O’Hern led the effort of creating a road management program with concentration on preventative maintenance, in addition to reconstruction. “We needed an aggressive plan to touch more roads per year while keeping costs down. To minimize the impact on our residents we continue to look for grant opportunities and place more emphasis on protecting our investments before it is time to rebuild. This is a plan that will have long-term benefits for our taxpayers.”

Residents need only look around to see the progress that is being made in West Caldwell. Just over the past year, a new website was launched, online payments for activities was instituted, the fire department facility was finished, several roadway projects were completed, dozens of ADA compliant curb ramps were installed, and new crosswalks were put down at Passaic and Bloomfield Avenues.
Stan Hladik and Tom O’Hern are on the ballot this November 6, 2012, running for re-election to West Caldwell’s Council.
