Occupy Wall Street, A Political Endorsement Disaster
The Occupy Wall Street protesters have more than just sanitation problems.
On the surface the idea of corporations being in bed with politicians is something that both Republicans and Democrats can agree serve no purpose in American politics. Instead of embracing this common thought, unfortunately the movement is swinging towards the Left’s answer to the Tea Party.
The Tea Party, a grassroots movement made up of mostly middle class working Americans made a tremendous impact on the 2010 midterm elections, special elections and more. The Left has been searching for this type of energy, an energy that existed for Barrack Obama during the 2007 election process. The dynamic speaking President and the Democratic Party should start to distance themselves from the Occupy Wall Street protestors before they are stuck with the Occupy Wall Street brand.
Endorsing a movement that openly condemns the same heroic NYPD that saved lives and gave lives on 9/11 is not a good idea. Occupy Wall Street states on their website “every day the actions of the BPD [Boston], NYPD, etc. continue to remind us that the police no longer fight to "protect and serve" the American people.”

This type of rhetoric was never found at a Tea Party rally. In fact, no Tea Partier has ever been arrested at such an event. This is something that around 1,000 Occupy Wall Streeters cannot say, as arrests have taken place in New York City, Boston, Washington DC, and elsewhere across the country.
There are reports of drug use, sex, and disgusting sanitation problems in New York City’s Zuccotti Park. The park has not been allowed its normal cleaning because many protestors have not left the park in weeks. One can only imagine where some of these protestors have been using the bathroom. The property management firm even released a statement a week ago stating “sanitary conditions have reached unacceptable levels.” Far beyond these sanitation problems is the direction in which the faction’s political philosophy is moving.

Some are calling for direct government control and even citing Karl Marx, Che Guevara, Mao Zedong and other extremists. This is a road no real liberal wants to go down. To be fair, not all protestors feel this way but by and large their mixed message is turning into a political disaster. While the Tea Party has a logical direct message of less government and constitutional thinking, Occupy Wall Street is just confused and moving in the wrong direction. In fact, I am not sure they even started on the right path. Endorsing, supporting or contributing to this unpredictable, untamed protest would hurt any political party that goes along with it.
