Our Adventure to 'American Idol'

We're one week away from our adventure to the American Idol auditions in Pittsburgh. So much preparation is involved for a 20-second audition.

I'm divided between excitement of the possibility of success and wanting my daughter, , to finish her senior year of high school at . She has a love of music and a gift to be able to perform anyway. Her strong, beautiful voice and bubbling personality will get her far on Idol. 

Now mom, on the other hand, is a control freak that likes things just so. I'm worried about what happens if they don't say nice things to her? What happens if she makes it through to Hollywood and we're in California for five months? What happens to my house while I'm gone? Oh, then there's the poor dog. Will anyone remember to feed him and let him out? 

We have "A.A." in our house—alien appliances that no one knows how to operate ... except mom! You know, like the washing machine, dishwasher and vacuum, etc.  We have Tuttie (she's a combination of a sister, wife and my Ethel—if I'm Lucy). She'll make sure everyone is fed, or at least make sure that the take-out menus are by the phone. Everyone should be blessed with a Tuttie.

I have to admit, the eight hour drive to Pittsburgh will be interesting. Driving there should be fun with music blasting and singing songs. On the way home, if her audition should not go as planned, will be my purgatory. Payback for every time I told her to go clean her room, take out the garbage or yelled for no reason at all. 

Due to confidentiality, we're not allowed to discuss the results until November. So not only will she be excited, but a time bomb ready to explode!

I think blogging will be my saving grace.
