Art Club Creates Tolerance Mural
West Essex Middle School seventh and eighth graders paint permanent mural with lasting message.
The West Essex Middle School Art Club, under the guidance of advisor Roger Munch, painted a huge mural with a tolerance theme in the school hallway recently. About 30 seventh and eighth grade students were involved in the project.
"The mural is in support of the Middle School's emphasis on character education with tolerance being one aspect of wholesome character development," Munch said. "Tolerance is defined as a person having 'a fair, objective and permissive attitude towards those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality etc., that differs from one's own; freedom from bigotry.'"
The mural was painted directly on the Middle School Wall and will be a permanent display, inspiring thought and providing aesthetic enjoyment for many, many years to come at the Middle School, Munch said.
